This sounds like a fun one!

" Explore the 1940s through the magic of live radio performance. Before podcasts and Spotify, communities all around the world tuned in to a wavelength where borders of class and ethnicity blurred into an ideal of what it meant to be “American”. Classic routines like “Who’s On First,” immigrant stories, mystery dramas, advertising jingles, and more scenes of life from the 1940s radio are woven together in a zippy production – with live sound effects! "On The Razzle" PRESENTED BY THE YOUNG ACTORS OF THE YOUTH PROGRAM AT THE SEATTLE PUBLIC THEATER AT THE BATHHOUSE IN GREEN LAKE - VARIOUS DAYS/TIMES This weekend and next! - DONATIONS ACCEPTED

On the Razzle
by Tom Stoppard
directed by Shana Bestock

“One false move and we’ll have a farce on our hands.”

From the master who brought us Arcadia comes a farce of epic proportions. In an explosion of verbal dazzle, wit, innuendo, malaprops, grand entrances, hasty exits, mistaken identities, and general hilarity, Stoppard adapts with a very free hand an 1842 Austrian farce (which inspired Thornton Wilder’sMatchmaker, which in turn was the basis for the musical Hello, Dolly!). “On the razzle” is a quaint Britishism that roughly translates as “to par-tay” and this play certainly is a night on the town! Two callow shop clerks escape their lives of provincial drudgery for one day in glitzy, sinful old Vienna, where they hope, as one of them puts it, “to acquire a past before it’s too late.” Don’t miss this deft and daffy romp!

Ensemble features actors grades 8 – 12.

Open Carry
by Scot Augustson
directed by Steven Sterne

" The constitution gives us the right to bear arms. But where do we draw the lines? And what if those arms were……tigers?

This is a world premiere play commissioned especially for Seattle Public Theater’s Youth Program, from local playwright Scot Augustson. In Augustson’s humorous, slightly twisted and quirky perspective, we get to ask hard questions about guns and violence, and equip ourselves with the emotional resilience and intellectual perspectives to build a stronger, safer future. Theater is our language – let’s talk about something important – without losing our sense of humor.

Ensemble features actors grades 6 – 8. "

The Cherry Orchard
by Anton Chekhov

" A genuine, truthful comedy of the absurd, of great poignancy and delicious ridiculousness. Chekhov’s classic is a Russian Downtown Abbey, full of characters who live at the brink of laughter and tears, in lives both great and inconsequential.
The Story: At the turn of the 20th century, world traveler Lyubov returns to her estate in rural Russia to reunite with her brother Gayev and two daughters, Anya and Varya. She’s been gone for over five years after the death of her young son and finds a house full of servants and neighbors eager to start again. Lyubov returns to face not only her memories, but debts that threaten her ownership of the estate. Servant-turned-businessman Lopakhin, tries in vain to bring the family into the future, as they cling resolutely to the only way of life they’ve known. And don’t forget The Quantum Mechanic – he claims to know something important, but can anyone hope to understand what it is? Detective Barium will need all his investigative skills to see through the evidence and solve the crime.

"The Odyssey of Homer, or One Thing After Another" performance at the Seattle Public Theater at the Bathhouse in Green Lake - Saturday, February 23rd and Sunday, February 24th 2013! - Various times

"The Odyssey of Homer, or One Thing After Another"

directed by Emily Purington
written by Jennifer Dice

" Come with us and tell the ancient tale of Ithakan war hero Odysseus, traveling home to his wife Penelope after the Trojan war. The trek takes the poor man over 30 years, and along the way he is beset by troubles - a giant bloodthirsty Cyclops, a seven headed Hydra (all seven heads are ravenous), beautiful but deadly Sirens who try to lure Odysseus to his death on the sharp rocks, and the evil sorceress Circe.

In this new version of the classic story by Seattle Playwright Jennifer Dice, Odysseus the leader becomes a role that any of the crew can play -- we explore different ways of taking or transferring power, as that leadership passes from one unlucky sailor to another. This thoughtful comedy takes a critical look at the abuse of power and explores the merits of perseverance and cooperation.

"The Odyssey of Homer, or One Thing After Another" was incubated at the revolutionary Greenwood Elementary Drama Program. Our showing will be the first performances that have occurred away from NW 80th St. "
