Learn how scientists are looking for volunteers of all ages to observe ladybugs in their neighborhoods. After the stories, please come to the Program Room to play a bug game and put together a bug puzzle. "

5th Annual "Celebrate Urban Nature" with Caspar Babypants, a reptile show and lots more at Magnuson Community Center in Seattle - Saturday, April 12th 2014 from 10am-1:30pm - "Less than a Latte" each at $10 per family or $3 each!



Definitely recommend this one! 



" This annual spring event, co-sponsored by Magnuson Community Center and Earthcorps, features family-friendly presentations, interactive booths, and displays, art and nature activities, nature- themed carnival, Nature Explorers Lab, and more! A fun-filled day for the whole family! "



Featuring:
  • 10:30 am Caspar Babypants sings nature songs in the Auditorium
  • 11:30 am Reptile Show with Isaac Petersen, son of the reptileman
  • 12:30 pm Raptor Presentation by Sarvey Wildlife Care Center
  • 10:30am-1:30pm in the gym: The “Nature Explorers Science Lab” will be chock-full off hands-on adventures including wildlife tracks, pond water from the Magnuson Wetlands, birds and their nests, Magnuson’s fabulous dragonflies,  how ants build their homes, where ladybugs go in the winter, and more!

Two fun events to get out of the house tomorrow afternoon, but stay out of the rain and enjoy with the littles!  





Dinosaurs and Other Creature Features" (Children's Movie) 
Lewis Creek Park Visitor Center from 2-2:30
" Travel back in time to when dinosaurs ruled the earth!  Then learn about some of the world's 
creepiest creatures like spiders, ants and more.  Running time is 30 minutes. "

Mercer's Minnows (Ranger Program) 
Mercer Slough Environmental Education Center from 2-3pm

" Did you know that a few times each spring, scores of foot-long minnows travel up the Mercer
 Slough on the way to their spawning beds in Kelsey Creek?  Come learn more about their fascinating
 journey and watersheds in general.  We'll play a fun peamouth minnow game! "

    "Pollinators in the Garden" - a family activity at Lake Hills Ranger Station - Sunday, June 10th 2012 at 2pm


    Head to the Lake Hills Ranger Station in Bellevue and attend this educational event about the "pollinators"!

    " Who are the pollinators in your backyard?  What do they do?  Are they just bugs?  Come discover all of the cool critters who help make flowers bloom and gardens bountiful! "

    "Insects"- a free movie at Lewis Creek Park Visitor Center - Sunday, June 10th 2012 at 2pm


    Take the kids to see a movie all about bugs!

    " By assuming a variety of body shapes and incorporating armor and wings, insects have evolved diverse strategies and become the most abundant creatures on Earth.  Many insects carry chemical weapons as a form of defense.  Some insects gain an advantage through cooperation.  When an American black bear destroys a bee's nest, the bees in the colony survives by carrying their honey to a new site.  Running time is 50 minutes. "

    Recommended for kids ages 12 and older.

    Free - but donations will be gladly accepted.

    "Passport to STEM" - Bellvue College Science Division Open House with tons of interactive events! - Saturday, June 9th 2012 from 10am-2pm


    Take your kids to the BC Science Division Open House featuring "Passport to STEM" - a fun, interactive and educational event! During the open house people of all ages are invited to collect stamps in their STEM passports as they engage in hands-on activities and view demonstrations from BC's 5 Science Division Programs: Earth and Space Sciences; Engineering Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematics, and Physical Sciences.

    Planned activities include:

    • An insect room with activities involving butterflies, Bess Beetles, and termites
    • Live Dissections and Wave Tank Demonstrations in the Oceanography lab
    • A Shark Tooth Fossil Dig
    • Genomics and Molecular Biology Techniques in the ComGen lab
    • Demonstrations of BC's Giant Van De Graaff Generator and Vacuum Cannon in the Physics lab
    • Exciting Chemistry Demonstrations from the Chemistry Club
    • Math Puzzles and Activities including 3-D Spirographs

    Presentations by Spyglass Theater "The Secret Life of Bugs", Insect Safari, Roving Reptiles, Woodland Park Zoo Owls: Who Are They?, World of Spiders/Burke Museum, Bats Northwest, and the Audubon.  Plus, there will be a nature themed carnival & tons more!
