"Adventures with Spot" Drama Storytime at Secret Garden Books in Seattle - Saturday, March 30th 2013 at 11am



Been wanting to check out one of these Drama Stories but can't fit it into our schedule tomorrow. But if you can, go, because I am sure it is going to be a treat!

" We are thrilled to present another Seattle Children's Theatre Drama Story for the 2012-2013 season! This one is for their current play: Adventures with Spot based upon the classic, perennial bestselling series by Eric Hill.  The list below only hints at the many titles in the series!

If you've never had the chance to come see the story-telling geniuses of SCT's Drama School here at the Garden, and how they effortlessly involve everyone in the interactive magic that is an SCT Drama Story, now's your chance to take advantage of the best freebie cultural event for kids in the city! 2nd Annual "Curtain Up!" A FREE interactive event for the whole family at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle - Saturday and Sunday, February 9th and 10th 2013 from 10am-5:30pm both days! (Update: Time Schedule Plus a chance to get Free Tix to "The Music Man" performance on February 10th at 7pm at this weekend's event!)

" February 9 and 10, the 5th Avenue is opening its doors for the 2nd annual Curtain Up! A Celebration of Musical Theater at the 5th. This wil be a weekend of FREE events for all ages, including kids as young as three. Curtain Up! will give children and adults the opportunity to “jump right in” to the musical theater experience. Join us as we celebrate our great American art form—the American Musical!

See Adventure Musical Theater
Enjoy a free performance of It Happened at the World’s Fair before it leaves on tour! AMT will travel the state bringing this original musical to elementary and middle schools this coming spring.

Sing a Song
Experience the joy of singing the fun, exuberant music of Meredith Willson. Everyone is welcome.

Tour The 5th
Explore the beautiful, historic 5th Avenue Theatre on a morning tour.

Make a Hat
Bring the kids to an activity center. They'll make their own boater hats, sing songs, and join a creative drama workshop. Suitable for kids ages 3 and up.

Dance the Shipoopi
Learn a dance from The Music Man in the same room where the cast rehearsed the choreography.

Visit the Musical Theater Gallery
Learn about the history of American Musical Theater from the work of Gilbert and Sullivan through Next to Normal.

Meet a Rising Star
Join a conversation with students from the Rising Star Project: The Music Man. Then join experts from our community and 5th Avenue Artistic staff for entertaining discussions about the impact of American Musical Theater on world culture.

Play Musical Theater Trivia
You know more about musical theater than you think. Join us for a fun, rollicking Musical Theater Trivia game. All ages welcome.

Free First Saturday for Families at the Seattle Asian Art Museum - Saturday, October 6th 2012 from 11am-2pm


Check out the "Incredible India" themed event happening in Fuller Garden Court at the Seattle Asian Art Museum!

" Bring your kids and share the story of Rama and Sita’s adventure with them! This fun-filled day of creativity features music, art making, a kids flick and a special performance by the Ramayana Youth Ensemble from ACT Theatre. The performance will tell the story of Rama’s quest through Indian classical singing, Bollywood dance, and Indonesian puppetry. Don’t miss performances at noon and 1 pm! "

Goldilocks and the Three Bears performance at the Central Branch of the Seattle Public Library - Thursday, June 28th 2012 at 10:30am



Head to the awesome Children's Section of the Seattle Public Library and watch a performance of Goldi Locks and the Three Bears in the Microsoft Auditorium on Level 1!

" Join Thistle Theatre for a musical adventure! In this classic story with a modern twist, a family of bears travels from Yellowstone Park to Hollywood on vacation. What will happen when Goldilocks and her pet duck stumble upon the bear's campsite?

Recommended for kids ages 3 and up.

Shoreline Arts Festival 2012! - Saturday, June 23rd from 10am-6pm & Sunday, June 24th 2012 from 10am-5pm

The Shoreline Arts Festival happens this weekend! They will have cultural rooms featuring Pacific Islander and Chinese exhibits as well as the 16th Annual Philippine Festival. The Phillipine Festival will feature clothing, cultural items, demos and dancing.

You and the kids can explore the Juried Art Shows and vendor booths, the food court, and watch live bands and other entertainers perform.

On Saturday, the Shoreline Auditorium will feature local children performing Missoula Children's Theatre's production.

There will be art projects in the popular Children's Hands-on Art Arena, as well as an exhibit, plus a collage making workshop using recycled materials. 

There will also be a festival breakfast which will be held at the Shoreline Senior Center both days from 8:30-noon.

Some for free and some for a fee.

"Eric Carle Drama Storytime" at Secret Garden Books in Seattle - Sunday, May 6th 2012 at 12pm


Secret Garden Books is partnering again this year with the artist/educators from Seattle Children’s Theatre Drama School for their weekend Drama Story events.

Sunday's event at the bookshop will showcase The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favorites.

" We will experience a story from the inside.  We will use acting, imagination and interactive, multi-sensory props to explore. This drama story (just like the show!) is aimed at audiences from 2-8. "

Chinese New Year Celebration in Chinatown-International District - Saturday, January 28th 2012 from 11am-4pm


Go and have lots of fun at the 2012 Lunar New Year Celebration in the Chinatown-International District! There will be cultural activities featuring calligraphy, drawing, crafts, games and a food walk throughout the District. Plus, there will be nonstop entertainment throughout the day including Lion and Dragon dances, Taiko drumming, martial arts and their third annual Children’s Parade Contest where the kiddos can strut their best New Year’s cultural outfit on stage! 

(And FYI - Restaurants across the Chinatown-ID will be offering a variety of $2 tastes from China, Japan, Vietnam, Cambodia, and beyond! Sample (and collect stamps) from FOUR (4) or more restaurants and you will be eligible to enter a drawing for a GRAND PRIZE! Simply return the stamp card to the information booth during Lunar New Year Celebration!)

Taproot Theatre presents a free performance of "Allies from Outer Space" at the Central Branch of the Seattle Public Library - Saturday, October 15th at 2pm




Another theater company I had the pleasure of meeting at the ARTSCrush event is Taproot Theatre! They contacted me and let me know that they will be presenting a free performance at the Central Branch of the Seattle Public Library of "Allies from Outer Space," a play about diversity and bullying prevention for grades K-6.

This is a story about how when the students of Galaxia Elementary meet Komodo from the planet Reptilia, they learn lessons about prejudice, bullying and how to treat others with respect.

Curious Max: Family and Educator Day event with Recess Monkey and a whole lot more fun at Frye Art Museum in Seattle - Saturday, September 24th from 11am-3pm


Ok, how is this for an event? A movie, a concert, a staged drama storytime, art and crafts, tours and more...all in the same day and in one spot for free! The Frye Art Museum is presenting Curious Max: Family and Educator Day where you can...

" Monkey around at the Frye Art Museum and help us celebrate the start of the school year with Curious Max: Family and Educator Day. Rock with the band Recess Monkey. Transform a sock into a soft toy monkey. Enjoy the adventures of George and his museum friend Ted in the film Curious George. Laugh at the funny monkey business in the story "Caps for Sale" as told by Seattle Children’s Theater. Educators and parents can enjoy special hands-on art activities and receive a lesson plan "

Additional art includes origami butterflies and colorful collages to make. What a fabulous event!

Teen Summer Bash at BAM (Bellevue Arts Museum) - Thursday, August 11th from 6-8:30pm - RSVP

 

The Bellevue Arts Museum Teen Arts Council presents a fun night out for teens to explore art, exhibits and their own creative potential at BAM. The evening includes performances by an improv and drama troupe called The Collective, live music by Cumulus, costumes from Pacific Northwest Ballet's performance of A Midsummer's Night Dream, screen-printing, exhibition tours and much more.
