" Come with us and tell the ancient
tale of Ithakan war hero Odysseus, traveling home to his wife Penelope
after the Trojan war. The trek takes the poor man over 30 years, and
along the way he is beset by troubles - a giant bloodthirsty Cyclops, a
seven headed Hydra (all seven heads are ravenous), beautiful but
deadly Sirens who try to lure Odysseus to his death on the sharp
rocks, and the evil sorceress Circe.
In this new version of the classic story by Seattle Playwright Jennifer Dice, Odysseus the leader becomes a role that any of the crew can play -- we explore different ways of taking or transferring power, as that leadership passes from one unlucky sailor to another. This thoughtful comedy takes a critical look at the abuse of power and explores the merits of perseverance and cooperation.
"The Odyssey of Homer, or One Thing After Another" was incubated at the revolutionary Greenwood Elementary Drama Program. Our showing will be the first performances that have occurred away from NW 80th St. "
