Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day with a Jump Jam show, games, obstacle course and more at Duthie Hill Park in Issaquah - Saturday, October 4th 2014 from 10am-3pm

" What’s more fun than Take Your Child to Work Day? Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day!
For many years Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance and Cascade have partnered together to make this amazing day a reality. Last year almost 200 kids and adults turned out for a day of exploring the trails at King County’s Duthie Hill Mountain Bike Park in Issaquah.
This year's event will include trail riding, an obstacle course for the little ones, an exciting jump show from local and pro riders, a barbecue, and tons of prizes! It’s a terrific way to get kids outside in the woods having fun on bikes. All ages are welcome – from tots to teens – they just need a working bike and helmet to participate.
So bring your kids, your neighbor’s kids, or your friends with kids and come ride bikes on the trails with us. "

Eastside Audubon hosts Heritage Park Eagle Nest Viewing in Kirkland - Last Sunday of the month - from 9-11am and all day on July 4th 2014

Go and see the Eagles' nest...you might spot a baby or two!

" Our nesting pair of Bald Eagles has come home to Heritage Park in Kirkland. One adult bird appears to be sitting on the nest all of the time, and that means there's an egg or (more likely) two. We're hoping for babies this spring once again — perhaps at the end of April or early in May.
Stop by for a close view through our high-powered spotting scopes. We'll be there the last Sunday of every month from 9 to 11 a.m. and all day on July 4. Free. Everyone is welcome. "

World Pinhole Day with a DIY camera obscura-building workshop for all ages at Ross Park in Seattle - Sunday, April 27th 2014 from 1-4pm

Here is something unique to try and fun for all ages!

" On April 27th, Seattle ReCreative and visual artist Ethan Jackson will be teaming up to transform Fremont’s Ross Park shelter house into a camera obscura-based art installation! ReCreative volunteers will also be leading an all-ages DIY camera obscura-building workshop. Come learn fundamental lessons about photography and the physics of light!

World Pinhole Day was established fourteen years ago to celebrate the wonder of capturing an image through a device as simple as a cardboard box with a small hole. Portland, Oregon-based artist Ethan Jackson’s optical installations readily demonstrate how minimal technology and cost can yield maximum passion, sensitivity and wonder.

Thanks to a SmArt Ventures grant from the City of Seattle’s Office of Arts & Culture, and with the support of Seattle Parks and Recreation, Seattle ReCreativeis using this event as an opportunity to showcase this emerging nonprofit organization, founded by Ballard moms Jenna Boitano and Emily Korson.

The event will be held Sunday, April 27th, 2014 from 1-4pm at Ross Park, 4320 4th Ave NW, Seattle, WA 98107.

This event is FREE, open to the public and fun for all ages! Participants are encouraged to bring a cardboard box and creative material donations. "

One of the reasons I LOVE living in the Pacific Northwest - all of the beautiful eagles!

Heritage Park Eagle Nest Viewing

Youth lead 9th annual youth march to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Peace is not merely a distant goal that we seek, but a means by which we arrive at that goal.”
–Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the public to join a youth-organized march to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday, Jan. 18. Participants will gather at 1 p.m. at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park, 2200 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, 98144.  Teens will lead the march to Rainier Community Center, 4600 38th Ave. S, 98118.
This year Seattle Parks and Recreation established a Youth Leadership Team to organize the 9th Annual Martin Luther King Youth March.  The Youth Leadership Team’s goal for the march is to celebrate the contribution Seattle youth make in creating a better city and to honor the work that youth do to keep Dr. King’s dream alive every day.
After the march, a talent show at Rainier Community Center will highlight talented youth in Seattle and end with youth group-speak recitation.
To show your support and march, please sign up athttp://www.seattle.gov/parks/teens/programs/mlkprogram.htm. Youth-designed T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts that honor Dr. King will be given to the first 400 people who sign up!
As the first step in the march, visit the Teen Portal at  http://seattle.gov/parks/teens/programs/mlkprogram.htm to watch a short video on the civil rights movement.
