Scott Sampson, the Paleontologist/Host of "Dinosaur Train" presents: Connecting Kids to Nature in a Technological World at Town Hall in Seattle - Thursday, April 2nd at 7:30pm - Tickets available for $5 (+ 1.30 fee) online so "Less than a Double Latte" each!

This looks like a good one for us parents!

" In our increasingly digital age, children are spending less and less time playing outdoors–despite nature’s correlation to improved physical and emotional health. In How to Raise a Wild Child, Scott Sampson (host of beloved PBS show Dinosaur Train) lays out the importance of getting outside, and offers a step-by-step guide for parents and teachers to engage kids in nature. Sampson will explain why it’s crucial to strengthen a rich relationship with the environment at an early age, and explore the way this connection changes with age. He’ll even offer his suggestion for a somewhat unusual channel to get kids moving out the door–with technology. "

AUTHOR KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR READS FROM HIS SECOND BOOK 'STEALING THE GAME' - TONIGHT, Thursday, February 19th 2015 from 7-8pm - FREE ADMISSION BUT "LESS THAN A LATTE" EACH TO PARK IN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY GARAGE FOR $6 - DOORS FOR EVENT OPEN AT 6:30PM

Go and see basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar read a selection from his new book!

" NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar celebrates the release of the second installment of the "Streetball Crew" series of novels for young adults...

"Stealing the Game" is the fast-paced and entertaining story about teamwork, friendship, dark secrets and having blind faith for those in our lives who have earned it.

"Stealing the Game" is not a saccharine-infused young adult novel. It is a wry and rollicking thrill ride that also tackles substantive issues like building self-esteem in teenagers, celebrating one’s individuality and what it means to feel special. And it never loses sight of the fact that teenagers also talk trash on the court, debate zombies and fall in love while watching classic French movies.

Library events and programs are free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations are not required.

Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

This event is supported by The Seattle Public Library Foundation, media sponsor The Seattle Times and presented in partnership with The Elliott Bay Book Co. Books will be available for purchase and signing. "
