Duvall Heritage Festival - Saturday, September 27th 2014 from 11am-5pm

" Celebrate the “good old days” by bringing the whole family to Duvall for a day of fun, learning, and reminiscing at the Duvall Heritage Festival on Sat., Sept. 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the historic Dougherty House and Farmstead at 26520 Cherry Valley Road in Duvall.  

Learn how the pioneers lived and worked.  Watch a blacksmith at work and a field being plowed the old fashioned way with mules.  Look at antique tractors.  Shell some corn, make cider, braid rope, churn butter, and wash clothes the old-fashioned way. 

Antique quilts will be on display in the Dougherty House, a well preserved example of a late 19^thcentury farmhouse.  It was built one year prior to Washington’s statehood and once served as a territorial post office.  Guided tours include the farmhouse, a restored logging bunk house, milk house, and old tool display.  A pioneer cemetery is also located on this site.

Kick up your heels and dance to  the music of Tinker’s Dram, a contra and square dance group or rest your feet, relax, and listen to Snoqualmie Valley folk music by the Novelty Hill Ramblers, and folk music and stories by Bob Antone.  Snoqualmie Tribe's Canoe Family will also be on stage with Native American drumming.

Booths will provide information about Eastside Audubon Society, SnoValley Tilth, and the Tualco Grange.

There is fun for all ages and free admission.  Free parking is available at Holy Innocents Catholic Church just east of the Dougherty Farmstead on Cherry Valley Road.  Handicapped parking available on site.earn how the pioneers lived and worked. "

Reservations are NOT necessary for the public docked tours; simply arrive at Carillon Point in Kirkland during the designated times. A $3 donation per person is appreciated. 

DOCKSIDE SHIP TOURS

" Public tours of these historical pirate vessels will also be given while the ships are docked at Carillon Point. Those not wanting to sail are invited to come aboard and get an exciting educational tour that is fit for the whole family; crew in period dress will be on-hand to share the history of each vessel. 

We invite everyone to visit our ships when we’re in port. All are welcome, and we ask for a voluntary $3 per-person donation to help us defray expenses. 

Our dockside tours are like an open house. Guests are free to explore at their own pace. Crew members in 18th century-style costume are glad to answer any questions you may have and tell you more about the boats and their lives aboard. The boats are our home, so we can tell you some great stories about life on the high seas. "

Youth lead 9th annual youth march to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Seattle Parks and Recreation invites the public to join a youth-organized march to honor Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. on Saturday, Jan. 18. Participants will gather at 1 p.m. at Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Park, 2200 Martin Luther King, Jr. Way, 98144.  Teens will lead the march to Rainier Community Center, 4600 38^th Ave. S, 98118. 

This year Seattle Parks and Recreation established a Youth Leadership Team to organize the 9th Annual Martin Luther King Youth March.  The Youth Leadership Team’s goal for the march is to celebrate the contribution Seattle youth make in creating a better city and to honor the work that youth do to keep Dr. King’s dream alive every day.

After the march, a talent show at Rainier Community Center will highlight talented youth in Seattle and end with youth group-speak recitation.

To show your support and march, please sign up athttp://www.seattle.gov/parks/teens/programs/mlkprogram.htm. Youth-designed T-shirts and hooded sweatshirts that honor Dr. King will be given to the first 400 people who sign up!

" Please join us to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and to recognize our individual and collective responsibility to continue his important work. The theme for this year's celebration is "No work is insignificant. All labor that uplifts humanity has dignity and importance and should be undertaken with painstaking excellence."

The celebration will include music by the King County MLK Singers and a performance by award-winning spoken word artist Christa Bell. The keynote address will be delivered by King County Councilmember Larry Gossett, one of King County's human rights icons. Other speakers at the celebration will include County Executive Dow Constantine and King County Council Chair Larry Phillips. The event will also feature the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Student Essay Award ceremony, sponsored by the King County Civil Rights Commission.

A very limited number of 2014 MLK Calendars will also be available at the celebration on a first-come, first-served basis.

100TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION FOR THE QUEEN ANNE BRANCH OF THE SEATTLE PUBLIC LIBRARY - Sunday, January 12TH 2014 FROM 2–4pm

Step back in time to see clothing styles from the 1900s! Enjoy music, refreshments, crafts and more at this 100th anniversary celebration.

Representatives from Goodwill's Vintage Fashion Collection will provide an exhibit at the branch featuring vintage clothing and an interactive hat show with 50 hats to view and try on.

The Queen Anne Historical Society will be present to share information on local history.

There will also be a whirligig craft for children, refreshments and commemorative bookmarks, an anniversary scrapbook of Queen Anne Branch memories, and historical photos of the branch. "
