Jack Straw Cultural Center Open House in Seattle - Saturday, September 21st 2013 from 2-6pm

" Jack Straw Productions has completed a major accessibility and visibility renovation project, and we're thrilled to open up the studios and public spaces of the newly named Jack Straw Cultural Center to the city in celebration of this milestone. Join us! Come by any time between 2 and 6 on Saturday, September 21 to see our new entry and exterior, visit our New Media Gallery, sit in Tina Hoggatt's Story Chairs, hear stories and poems from our Jack Straw Writers and students, and catch a performance from one of our resident artists. Throughout the day we will present folk fiddler Paul Anastasio with guitarist Elena DeLisle, Brazilian choro ensemble ChoroLoco, composer/French horn player Tom Varner's original jazz compositions, and the foot-stomping Eastern European folk sounds of Alchymeia! You can also visit our Studio 2 Story Booth throughout the day and record a story. Share your memories of Jack Straw, the University District, or anything else. Your story will be saved in our archives and we'll email a copy to you! "

Family Artist Workshop - Marble Noisemakers and Contraptions Workshop in Seattle - Saturday, June 22nd 2013 from 10am-1pm


A special art- and noise-making activity event for kids of all ages at Jack Straw New Media Gallery in Seattle!

" For young children (toddler – age 4): wearable marble noisemakers

Marbles will roll around inside containers of various materials, including plastic pop bottles, hose, cardboard, and metal tubes. These objects will be sealed with marbles inside and equipped with velcro straps for wearing and noisemaking. Decorating materials (yarn, markers, tape, etc.) will be on hand, so kids can make these percussive elements look awesome.

For older children (age 4-5 & up): marble contraption component play
 
Children will be able to play with tubes, tracks, marbles, and instruments to experience how the big machine began, and create and decorate their own devices. This will be noisy!
 
In addition, the members of meadow starts with p will be available to answer questions, tell jokes, and sign autographs. "

"Family Sundays at the Henry" with hands-on art activities at the Henry Art Gallery in Seattle - Second Sundays - Sunday, April 14th 2013 from 2-3:30pm - "Less than a Latte" each at $10 per family!


Want to learn and create along with your children in an artistic atmosphere? Then head to Family  Sundays where once each month the gallery will focus on different activities for you and yours to participate in!

Recommended for elementary aged kids but younger and older ones are also welcome to join in!

 This month's theme is Silhouettes:

" What makes something beautiful? In this hands-on activity, we will create silhouettes and to each one, add elements of beauty creating our own image of what we think makes a beautiful person or family. By exploring different ideas and thoughts on beauty, we will foster a better understanding of the many shapes and shades of individual and familial beauty. "

Free First Saturday with free admission, activities and a movie at Seattle Asian Art Museum - This month's theme "Girl Power!" celebrating the Japanese holiday, Hina-matsuri! - Saturday, March 2nd 2013 from 11am-2pm (movie is 1:30-3pm)


Check out the museum, do arts and crafts and watch a movie - all for free!

2nd Annual "Curtain Up!" A FREE interactive event for the whole family at the 5th Avenue Theatre in Seattle - Saturday and Sunday, February 9th and 10th 2013 from 10am-5:30pm both days! (Update: Time Schedule Plus a chance to get Free Tix to "The Music Man" performance on February 10th at 7pm at this weekend's event!)

" February 9 and 10, the 5th Avenue is opening its doors for the 2nd annual Curtain Up! A Celebration of Musical Theater at the 5th. This wil be a weekend of FREE events for all ages, including kids as young as three. Curtain Up! will give children and adults the opportunity to “jump right in” to the musical theater experience. Join us as we celebrate our great American art form—the American Musical!

See Adventure Musical Theater
Enjoy a free performance of It Happened at the World’s Fair before it leaves on tour! AMT will travel the state bringing this original musical to elementary and middle schools this coming spring.

Sing a Song
Experience the joy of singing the fun, exuberant music of Meredith Willson. Everyone is welcome.

Tour The 5th
Explore the beautiful, historic 5th Avenue Theatre on a morning tour.

Make a Hat
Bring the kids to an activity center. They'll make their own boater hats, sing songs, and join a creative drama workshop. Suitable for kids ages 3 and up.

Dance the Shipoopi
Learn a dance from The Music Man in the same room where the cast rehearsed the choreography.

Visit the Musical Theater Gallery
Learn about the history of American Musical Theater from the work of Gilbert and Sullivan through Next to Normal.

Meet a Rising Star
Join a conversation with students from the Rising Star Project: The Music Man. Then join experts from our community and 5th Avenue Artistic staff for entertaining discussions about the impact of American Musical Theater on world culture.

Play Musical Theater Trivia
You know more about musical theater than you think. Join us for a fun, rollicking Musical Theater Trivia game. All ages welcome.

16th Annual "Fresh Paint" - Festival of Artists at the Port of Everett Marina - Now until 5pm Sunday, August 19th 2012



The promenade will be filled with artists at work making the Everett Marina into a huge outdoor studio and sidewalk gallery. 75+ artists will be sharing painting, pottery, glass, jewelry, photography & more. There will also be on-site glassblowing and children's activities. And you can see and enjoy the Seattle Metals Guild Jewelry Trunk Show, NW Basketweavers 30th anniversary exhibit, and the inaugural Everett Craft Beer Festival along Hoyt Ave. on Saturday.

Lots of creative and fun things to do this weekend at the festival!

CroatiaFest at the Seattle Center - Sunday, October 23rd from 12-8pm


CroatiaFest happens tomorrow at Seattle Center and it will feature music, dance, a beer and wine garden, historical displays, Croatian cooking demonstrations, vendors, an art gallery and activities for kids. Go and celebrate the heritage and culture of Croatia!

Small Frye Storytime at the Frye Art Museum in Seattle - Friday, October 7th from 11:15-11:45am


Small Frye is a free storytime program presented by the Frye Art Museum in partnership with the Seattle Children’s Theatre for children three-to-five years old and their parents or caregivers. It occurs on the first Friday of each month from 11:15 to 11:45am. After storytime you can explore artworks and exhibitions in the galleries.  Also, FYI - Kid-friendly snacks are available for purchase in the Frye CafĂ©. Admission to the Frye is free and free parking is available too!

Wells Fargo Free First Thursday @ Museum of Flight - Thurs, April 7th from 5pm - 9pm

The Museum of Flight will be open late for exhibit and gallery exploration from 5pm - 9pm on Thursday, April 7th for Free First Thursdays, which is sponsored by Wells Fargo.
