Public Grand Opening
Reserve your free tickets and be among the first to step inside the dazzling new MOHAI at Lake
Union Park at this community-wide celebration! The beautifully restored
new facility will provide MOHAI with 50,000 square feet of exhibit
space—go explore, participate in special programming, and see amazing
live performances at the
new MOHAI.
" The public Grand Opening officially kicks off on Saturday, December
29 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 am.
From 12 pm to 7 pm, hourly
performances are scheduled from local acts such as poet Henry Luke, the
Chief Sealth Marching Band and opera singer Sarah Fletcher.
Visitors
will also have the chance to take part in various activities including
Salish weaving demonstrations, print making, and a
build-your-own
periscope project sponsored by the Puget Sound Maritime Historical
Society.
Food and beverages will be available at the museum’s new
Compass Café by Northwest Catering and a number of food trucks including Dante’s Inferno Dogs and Street Treats.
MOHAI’s new neighbors at Lake Union Park are also joining the
festivities. Argosy’s largest ship, The Royal, will dock at Lake Union
Park Wharf and offer food, beverages, and
entertainment to MOHAI
visitors before and after their museum experience.
Boat rides will be
plentiful from organizations such as the Center for Wooden Boats,
Waterway Cruises and the Virginia V. The Seattle Flying Dragons will
also be staging
dragon boat races in front of the park and Northwest
Seaport will have the
historic tug, Arthur Foss, open for tours.
To ensure that all visitors have a fun and worthwhile experience,
MOHAI has set up a timed-ticketing reservation system for Grand Opening
weekend. Tickets are
free on Saturday and regularly priced on Sunday.
