The beautifully restored new facility will provide MOHAI with 50,000 square feet of exhibit space—go explore, participate in special programming, and see amazing live performances at the new MOHAI.

" The public Grand Opening officially kicks off on Saturday, December 29 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 am.

From 12 pm to 7 pm, hourly performances are scheduled from local acts such as poet Henry Luke, the Chief Sealth Marching Band and opera singer Sarah Fletcher.

Visitors will also have the chance to take part in various activities including Salish weaving demonstrations, print making, and a build-your-own periscope project sponsored by the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society.

Food and beverages will be available at the museum’s new Compass Café by Northwest Catering and a number of food trucks including Dante’s Inferno Dogs and Street Treats.

MOHAI’s new neighbors at Lake Union Park are also joining the festivities. Argosy’s largest ship, The Royal, will dock at Lake Union Park Wharf and offer food, beverages, and entertainment to MOHAI visitors before and after their museum experience. Boat rides will be plentiful from organizations such as the Center for Wooden Boats, Waterway Cruises and the Virginia V. The Seattle Flying Dragons will also be staging dragon boat races in front of the park and Northwest Seaport will have the historic tug, Arthur Foss, open for tours.

To ensure that all visitors have a fun and worthwhile experience, MOHAI has set up a timed-ticketing reservation system for Grand Opening weekend. Tickets are free on Saturday and regularly priced on Sunday. Reserved tickets are recommended, but not required. Guests can choose to arrive anytime during Grand Opening and will be let in pending building capacity.

Click the link below for the time you would like to come. Slots are filling up so reserve your tickets today!

NOTE: The times listed will be your entry time (i.e. 1:00 - 1:30) not the amount of time you can spend in the museum. We estimate that it will take about 90 minutes to see most of the exhibits. "

Honk Fest West - Friday-Sunday, June 1st-3rd 2012 - Various locations and times!

Special Announcement:

In honor of our friends we lost this week in Seattle, we are planning two memorial events during HONK! Fest West.

The first will take place at the start of the procession from Oxbow Park to Georgetown at 5:45 on Friday night. There will be 60 seconds of silence at 5:44pm, followed by the joyous noise of HONK! marching down the street.

The second will be on Sunday at Seattle Center, and this will be the proper second line sendoff. We will exit EMP at 4pm as a mass band playing this piece -

New Orleans Jazz Funeral - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=krJW2qMVv4M&feature=youtube_gdata_player

We will gather at the International Fountain for 60 seconds of silence at 4:20pm then at 4:21, we begin the most raucous second line and send these boys home. At 4:40pm, we are due to play Mini Maker Faire at Seattle Center, so the procession will keep moving!

All are welcome to come and play our friends home.

*************************

"  HONK! Fest West 2012 is a free, three-day, community-supported music festival devoted to marching bands, drum corps, samba lines, and anything acoustic and mobile that makes a ruckus. We revel in celebration of street band culture by taking mirth and music to the streets and parks of Seattle.
Always family-friendly, always free :: fanciful costumery and audience participation are *highly* encouraged!

Friday evening, June 1st, we’ll be back taking Georgetown by storm in or around the intersection of 12th Ave. S. and S. Vale St. from 6–10 pm http://g.co/maps/r8xmf

Saturday June 2nd, we’ll be back in Gas Works Park (Wallingford/Fremont) for a free & family-friendly day of fun, from noon till 6 pm.  http://g.co/maps/pas94

Sunday June 3rd, we’ll be in the EMP Sky Church (Seattle Center) from 2–4 pm. Following that, we’ll be rompin’ around Seattle Center grounds! http://g.co/maps/wsjmr

Wow, with so many times and places, we hope everyone finds something to enjoy! And we hope that many of you will keep coming back for more — remember, there are nearly 25 bands to see! "
