" Join us for a day of family fun at all nine Bellevue Fire Department stations. Last year we had over 4,000 parents, kids and neighbors join us for a day at the fire house. This year we will be focusing on the importance of smoke detectors. "Hear the beep where you sleep" reminds all of us to review the locations and proper function of smoke alarms in our homes.

A kid favorite is back...A Touch-a-Truck event!

" The Mukilteo Recreation Department has teamed up with the Mukilteo Police, Fire and Public Works Departments to create a day of fun and learning! Not only will kids have the chance to get in the biggest, coolest and fastest cars and trucks they see on the streets of Mukilteo, they will have the chance to learn about what to do in emergencies. This street fair promises to be not only fun but educational as well! "

April Pools Day with free swimming, activities, water safety education and more at 6 locations in Seattle on Saturday, April 18th and one location Sunday, April 19th 2015 - Various Times

" Before you know it, we’ll be trading in April showers for blue skies and bathing suits. On Saturday, April 18, six of our pools are hosting FREE public swims. We’ll be teaching water and boating safety and will have fun activities for kids. Don’t miss this opportunity to teach your family how to enjoy summer safely. "

April Pool’s Day will focus on four main areas of water safety: 

Preventing open water drowning 

Lifejacket use and promotion 

Cold water awareness 

Basic water rescue for children

Keep your kids safe and get ready for the snow! If you missed a previous giveaway, Seattle Children's  Hospital and Kohl's are partnering up once again to offer FREE ski helmets, this time in Bellevue! 

They are available for children at least 4 years old to age 18 and the wearers must be present and be fitted to receive a helmet. Quantities are limited, so it is one helmet per child and first come, first served. No appointment needed.

FYI - If you have kids on the younger side, a reader has informed me to make sure you get there early as those sized helmets go fast!

" King County Fire & Life Safety Association hosts the annual Kids' Safety Day at The Museum of Flight. Kids of all ages are welcome to view fire equipment on display and meet the men and women who serve them. Kids - and adults too! - will have the opportunity to climb aboard a fire engine, see how tall an aerial ladder extends, talk with firefighters and department personnel, and learn fire and life safety skills through fun activities. Beat the Heat...Check the Back Seat! A friendly safety reminder for parents and caregivers. See details...

They say this can happen when a busy parent's usual routine gets interrupted (hard to explain out of context) but the best thing to do is to place a stuffed animal in the car seat then when baby goes in put teddy bear on seat next to you as a visual indicator. Then when you take baby out put teddy back in and just keep repeating the process. So sad that this does happen.

Northshore Fire Dept. Open House with FREE Pancake Breakfast, Health and Safety Fair, Firefighter Demos and more in Kenmore - Saturday, June 14th 2014 from 9am-12pm

" On June 14, 2014 the Northshore Fire Department will be hosting an Open House at their headquarters fire station. The fire station is located at 7220 NE 181^st St. in Kenmore. The event will run from 9:00 am until 12:00 pm and will include a free pancake breakfast (9:00 to 11:00), a health and safety fair and live firefighter demonstrations. There will also be an area with activities for kids and an opportunity to tour the fire engine, aid car and rescue truck.
