Special FREE FIRST SATURDAY: LUNAR NEW YEAR at the ASIAN ART MUSEUM in Seattle - Saturday, February 7th 2015 from 11am-2pm





Here is another one I highly recommend! These are monthly but this one (Feb 2015) will also feature a live martial arts performance in honor of the Lunar New Year!

Celebrate the Japanese holiday Hina-matsuri aka "Girls Day" at the Seattle Asian Art Museum with art, information booths on girls organizations, a movie and more! - Saturday, March 1st 2014 from 11am-2pm


Take your girls and head to the museum on March 1st!

" Celebrate the Japanese holiday Hina-matsuri, or Girls Day, by exploring the Japanese art collection at the Asian Art Museum, then be inspired to make your own artwork from the Doll Display in the Garden Court.

In partnership with the Northwest Girls Coalition Resource Fair; adults and kids alike are invited to visit tables hosted by many local girl-serving organizations.

Kids Flick: The Cat Returns (Hiroyuki Morita, 2002). In this animated tale, a young girl, after helping a cat, is transported to the magical Kingdom of Cats for more adventures. 75 min. "

"Holiday in Volunteer Park" with singing, refreshments, luminaries and Free Admission to the Seattle Asian Art Museum in Seattle - Tonight, December 12th 2013 from 6-8pm




Visit the beautiful conservatory and enjoy the holiday festivities then check out the SAAM, all for free!

FREE Lunar Year Celebration "Year of the Snake" at Seattle Asian Art Museum - Saturday, February 2nd 2013 from 11am-2pm (Movie "Jungle Book" until 3pm!)


This is a not-to-miss celebration and will feature live music, performances and family tours throughout the galleries. Kids can celebrate the lunar New Year and design their own snake prints too!

 

Schedule of Events:

11:30 & 1:30: Dance performances: Enjoy Chinese folk, traditional, and modern dance performances by the Melody Dance Group!

12:30 pm: Martial Arts Performance: Watch members from Mak Fai perform a traditional martial arts Lion Dance!

11 am – 2pm: Art-making: Celebrate the lunar New Year by designing your own snake print!

11 am – 2 pm: All Day activities: Pick up a book and read in our story time corner! Try on some traditional clothing in our dress-up area!

Gallery Tour: Explore the galleries with a sketching tour! *Grab a tour from the Garden Court

1:30pm – 3pm Kid’s Flick: The Jungle Book: This enchanting live-action version of Rudyard Kipling’s tale features Sabu as Mowgli; the jungle-raised boy who communicates and interacts with memorable snake, tiger and wolf characters.

1st Annual "Holiday in Volunteer Park" in Seattle - Thursday, December 13th 2012 from 6-8pm


One of our favorite parks will be made even better on Thursday with luminarias, music and more to celebrate the holiday season!

" Please join the community in a celebration of lights and music. Luminarias and choirs will light the path between the Volunteer Park Water Tower and the Conservatory. The Conservatory will be open until 8pm and SAAM will remain open until 9pm (free admission!). Hot drinks and cookies will be provided by the Volunteer Park Trust. "

Check out the "Incredible India" themed event happening in Fuller Garden Court at the Seattle Asian Art Museum!

" Bring your kids and share the story of Rama and Sita’s adventure with them! This fun-filled day of creativity features music, art making, a kids flick and a special performance by the Ramayana Youth Ensemble from ACT Theatre. The performance will tell the story of Rama’s quest through Indian classical singing, Bollywood dance, and Indonesian puppetry. Don’t miss performances at noon and 1 pm! "

Seattle Asian Art Museum's (SAAM) Free First Saturday and Kids Flicks free film "Little Women" - Saturday, May 5th 2012 from 11am-2pm (Film starts at 1:30pm)


SAAM's Free First Saturday presents "Wonderful Wardrobe" in the Fuller Garden Court where kids can explore the exhibition Colors of the Oasis: Central Asian Ikats, and then can design their own wearable art inspired by the exhibit. Plus, there will be special performances by Silk Road Dance Company too!

Free First Saturday and Free Movie at the Seattle Asian Art Museum - Saturday, March 3rd 2012 - various times

The Seattle Asian Art Museum presents: Celebrate Hinamatsuri (Japanese Girls' Day) on Free First Saturday with creative kid tours and printmaking inspired by women and girls depicted in the art at the Seattle Asian Art Museum from 11am-2pm.

Kids Flicks on Free First Saturday presents My Neighbor Totoro at 1:30pm in the Stimson Auditorium. Film description: (Hiyao Miyazaki, 1988, 86 min.) While their mother is ill, two young Japanese sisters have magical forest adventures with Totoro, a giant furry spirit.

Enjoy a free family festival today at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. It is presented by Target in conjunction with Wells Fargo, who sponsors the Free First Saturday of the month promotions.
