Earth Day Celebration with hands-on nature activities and art projects at Magnuson Park in Seattle - Saturday April 18th 2015 from 10am-2pm

Herb and Food Fair: Food and Medicine on the Wild Side at Bastyr University with kid activities and more in Kenmore - Saturday, May 31st 2014 from 10am-5pm




Celebrate nature at our free annual event that draws thousands to the University's lush Kenmore campus.
Herb and Food Fair entranceJoin Bastyr University at the Herb and Food Fair, a free annual festival that brings thousands of visitors to the Kenmore campus. With gardens blooming and the campus forest buzzing with new life, it's a great time to soak up spring colors and learn about the endless uses of plants.

This year's theme is “Food and Medicine on the Wild Side.”

Keynote Speakers

  • Amy Stewart is the award-winning author of The Drunken Botanist: The Plants that Create the World’s Great Drinks and other books on the perils and pleasures of the natural world, including four New York Times bestsellersAmy has written for the New York Times, the Washington Post, and many others. She is the co-founder of the popular blog Garden Rant and is a contributing editor atFine Gardening magazineRead a Bastyr Q-and-A with Stewart.
  • Todd Caldecott is a clinical herbalist and ayurvedic practitioner. He is the author of Food as Medicine: The Theory and Practice of Food and The Divine Science of Life. His training as a clinician in herbal medicine began during a search to resolve a chronic digestive disorder acquired while traveling in India. He has been in clinical practice since 1996 and has spoken at numerous botanical medicine conferences and colleges. 
  • Glenn Herlihy is a cofounder of the Beacon Food Forest and a Seattle-based sculptor and permaculture designer/builder. Glenn has worked in landscaping for 23 years while co-founding New Volute Inc., an architectural/garden sculpture business. He is a community activist and organizer who helped revitalize Jefferson Park, a 50-acre park on Seattle's Beacon Hill. His main interest is in creating beauty by combining his skills in visual arts and landscape design for public benefit.
  • John Sundstrom is chef and owner of the Seattle restaurant Lark. He has been cooking for more than 20 years, including time at Seattle's Raison d'etre, Campagne, Café Sport and Dahlia Lounge. He has developed connections to Northwest foragers, fishermen and farmers, a network that continues to grow. In 2007, he won the James Beard Award for Best Chef Northwest. While at Earth & Ocean, Sundstrom was named a Food & Wine Magazine Best New Chef. He has been featured on the Food Network’s “Best of Show” and ”Food Nation” and featured in the PBS original series “Chefs A 'Field.”
  • Jo Robinson is a best-selling investigative journalist who has spent the past 15 years scouring research journals for information on restoring vital nutrients to our food. Her insights into the benefits of raising animals on pasture have been featured in scores of magazines, newspapers, and radio shows. Her new book, Eating on the Wild Side: The Missing Link to Optimum Healthextends her expertise to reclaiming the lost nutrients of fruits and vegetables. She also grows rare vegetable varieties in her garden and believes that growing the most nutritious food in backyard gardens is the wave of the future.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
You'll have the opportunity to meet regional and national experts in the natural health arts and sciences, including herbalists, culinary artists, nutritionists and educators.
It's also a place to learn about Bastyr's programs in herbal sciences and holistic landscape design (permaculture)

Family Gardening Day at the Community Garden in Magnuson Park - Saturday, April 13th 2013 from 10am-2pm


Community volunteers will do simple tasks such as trimming perennials, mulching, and tidying up the garden to prepare for spring and summer programs while kids get to enjoy free activities such as exploring the worm bin, making nature art sculptures, harvesting and planting!

The free family event will be held at the Magnuson Park Amphitheater, 6344 NE 74th St, and will feature Harmonica Pocket, Smalltime String Band, Debbie Doolittle's Petting Farm, Scarecrow Making $5 (bring old clothes and a pillow case), orchard maze and scavenger hunt, apple tasting, garden games, a kiddie tractor corral, and much more! Annual Sculpture and Garden Art Show with activities, Ciscoe Morris and more at the Bellevue Botanical Garden - Saturday and Sunday, August 25th and 26th 2012 from 10am-6pm both days!






Check out all of the beautiful sculptures and art that will be on display this weekend at the Bellevue Botanical Garden for their annual event. Also, on Saturday, Ciscoe Morris will be leading a tour of the garden at 1pm and from 10am-2pm on both days, kids will get to do printmaking! Plus you can get your "passport" stamped by all of the artists and be entered into a drawing to win free prizes too!

Children's Day at the Japanese Garden in Seattle - Monday, May 28th 2012 from 1-5pm


The Japanese Garden is hosting a Children's Day! Special pricing starts at 10am and children's events start at 1pm. It will be a day of entertainment for families and kids including performances and hands-on activities. There will be a puppet show at 1:30pm and a Taiko drumming performance at 4pm (weather permitting) in addition to the hands-on activities. Special pricing will be "Less than a Latte" -for most family combinations!- at $10 per adult with up to 2 kids (12 and under) for free. Each additional child will be $5 each.
