It's here...Winterfest!
All kinds of free fun (except for ice skating which is only free on Dec. 22nd) to be had at Seattle Center through the holidays! Most notable today is Ice Sculpture Carving from 12-2pm at Fisher Pavilion and the "Hot Dog" Jump Rope team at 12:30pm at the Armory. Notable for tomorrow is a Taiko Drumming performance and a Menorah lighting ceremony. Enjoy!
" A wonderland of sparkling lights, child-sized diversions and
spirited entertainment brightens Seattle Center through the twilight of
the year. Stroll the grounds, Nov. 29 – Dec. 31, and you’ll discover
Seattle Center Winterfest. Winterfest Ice Rink returns, along with
Saturday ice sculpting and lively weekend performances.
Visit Seattle Center Armory, all dressed for the season, and you’ll
find some changes in Winter Train & Village, fresh food and drink
offered at Northwest Armory merchants and inspiring student showcases.
The festival opens with the Keith Highlanders Pipe Band and rings in the
New Year with spectacular fireworks and live music by THE NINES. "

Student Showcases offer entertainment as part of seasonal events
and provide public and private schools and youth performance groups the
opportunity to share their artistic accomplishments with family,
friends and the public.

A Winterfest favorite, a magnificent, turn-of-the-century village
in miniature size, with garlanded homes and buildings, snowy streets and
a moving model train. Visit and take a turn controlling the model train
between 10:30am-12pm, 1pm-2:30pm and 3:30-5:30pm daily. $2 suggested
donation. Cash only.

Glide into the season with the greatest of ease and excitement. For
novice or Olympiad, Winterfest Ice Rink offers fun for all. Admission
includes skate rental: $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and $2
children ages 5 and under. Cash only. FREE admission to watch. Special
hours: closes at 4pm on Dec. 24; closed on Dec. 25; closes at 11:30pm on
Dec. 31.

A quartet of Victorian costumed carolers sings out the spirit of
the season, sharing beloved carols in perfect four-part harmony. Since
1978, The Dickens Carolers have offered traditional and contemporary

Matt Baker’s comedy and variety shows are one-of-a-kind, a mix of

Imparting the power and eloquence of this mighty wind instrument,
the Keith Highlanders Pipe Band seeks to broaden the popularity of
traditional Scottish piping, drumming and dancing. As the official pipe
band of the Clan Keith (a rare designation outside Scotland), the band
has performed throughout the Northwest and internationally since its
beginning in 1952.

Artistry and ice unite in a glorious and temporal expression of the
season. Watch internationally acclaimed, award-winning artists at work
as they create seasonal sculptures – or stop by later to see the
glistening result. Each Saturday an ice master carves a different
design.

Dedicated to inspiring, motivating and educating people of all
ages, the Hot Dog jump rope team, consisting of 50 boys and girls from
six years of age to adult, has performed, competed in and taught jump
rope workshops around the country and the world since 1980.

Created in June 2008, this big band is devoted to exploring many of
the genres of vintage jazz, performing the great jazz music that became
popular during the Swing Era from the early 1930s until the late 1950s.

This intergenerational group of musicians, singers and dancers
presents interactive concerts of world Jewish music and mirth. You’ll
hear the wail of clarinets and the rousing sounds of Israeli dance
music. You’ll see bottles balanced on the heads of dancers, and you
might even learn some new steps!

One World Taiko’s own creative rhythms, arrangements and
choreography add a modern spirit to the ancient tradition of taiko.
Their repertoire includes traditional pieces, taught to them by a
world–renowned drumming master, and their own original compositions
infused with contemporary rhythms from their love of jazz and world
music.

Choir (grades 3 and 4).

Jazz forms the foundation of a reputation at Cornish College of the
Arts as one of the most respected collegiate improvised music programs
in the nation. The wealth of student talent and skill spills out into

broader community, the Bailadores break down cultural barriers and build

Seattle Men's Chorus, has performed all over the region and beyond,

Chorus, performs pop and vocal jazz, balancing great delivery with fun,
innovative staging.

This ensemble began 10 years ago out of a deep reverence for Gypsy
jazz of the '30s and '40s, growing to incorporate classic jazz and
folkloric influences from around the world into clever arrangements and
adventurous improvisations. Over the past decade, the distinctive Hot
Club Sandwich sound has reached millions through performance and radio
recordings charting in the top 20 of CMJ jazz charts.

This unsurpassed crew of energetic b–boys/b–girls (break dancers),
originating from Seattle, have shared the stage with the likes of Alicia
Keys, Jay–Z, Nas, Public Enemy, Missy Elliot, Ludacris, 50 Cent and
Akon among others. They have been described as percussively–gifted,
hip–hop dervishes.

Ring in the new year to the sounds of THE NINES. With world class
male and female lead vocals, the popular band has been able to get
dancers on their feet and blow them away with its high energy and pure
professionalism. This super fun, five-piece band transports audiences
from the sounds of the 70‘s to current hits including Studio 54 funk,
synth pop, and party rock.
