"How to Talk to Your Kids About School Shootings: A Doctor's Guide and Tip Sheet for Parents" - Resource presented by ParentMap - December 14th 2012

If you were on Facebook 3 hours ago you may have seen this post by me:

My husband just called me to tell me about the school shooting in Connecticut. We use to shop at the Mall nearby in Danbury.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of the families and school staff during this tragic time.

It absolutely breaks my heart.

I literally spent 2.5 hrs eyes glued to the KIRO channel as I was trying to process this horrific news.

Finally, getting back to work on the computer I came across this Facebook post from ParentMap with a link to a Dr.'s guide on how to talk to children about tragedies, specifically school shootings.

My first thought was that my son would not hear about it as he is only four but with being around older kids and the such, he might. So, I thought I would also share this resource with all of you should it come up in conversation within your family.

This is the excerpt from ParentMap's post:
Before they come home from school and start asking questions, think about how you will talk to your kids about gun violence or answer questions that might come up. Top tips: Control what media they are seeing and hearing; be open and honest but sensitive; expect delayed reactions; and assure them they are safe.
