Play 60 “Beat Blitz” Challenge for kids ages 5-18 on June 23rd: Compete with Seahawks’ Blitz to get active and healthy!
" Seattle Parks and Recreation, the Seattle Seahawks, and the Austin Foundation are working to help kids get ahead of the curve by becoming aware and creating fitness self-challenges.
NFL Play 60 is the National Football League’s (NFL) campaign to encourage kids to be active for 60 minutes a day to help reverse the national trend toward childhood obesity. The Play 60 Challenge, a partnership of the Seattle Seahawks and the American Heart Association, takes place at the Green Lake Playfield (next to the community center) at 7201 E Green Lake Dr. N from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 23. Willie Austin of the Austin Foundation will host. There will be prizes for winners and certificates for all participants, and the Seahawks will give away eye black, Frisbees, tattoos and stickers.
At the Challenge, youth ages 5 to 18 will go through a set of physical challenges, the Passport to Health obstacle course, to learn what activities they like and which ones they have an aptitude for. Then they sign up for a six-week challenge in which they’ll write a fitness “game plan” that can include both exercise and an eating plan, and carry it out. Members of the Seahawks staff and Austin Foundation staff will monitor the course.
Each child can then carry out his or her game plan for the six weeks, then repeat the challenge at Seattle Parks and Recreation’s celebration of fitness and healthy living, Big Day of Play, at Magnuson Park from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 25. "
