AUTHOR KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR READS FROM HIS SECOND BOOK 'STEALING THE GAME' - TONIGHT, Thursday, February 19th 2015 from 7-8pm - FREE ADMISSION BUT "LESS THAN A LATTE" EACH TO PARK IN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY GARAGE FOR $6 - DOORS FOR EVENT OPEN AT 6:30PM

Go and see basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar read a selection from his new book!

" NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar celebrates the release of the second installment of the "Streetball Crew" series of novels for young adults...

"Stealing the Game" is the fast-paced and entertaining story about teamwork, friendship, dark secrets and having blind faith for those in our lives who have earned it.

"Stealing the Game" is not a saccharine-infused young adult novel. It is a wry and rollicking thrill ride that also tackles substantive issues like building self-esteem in teenagers, celebrating one’s individuality and what it means to feel special. And it never loses sight of the fact that teenagers also talk trash on the court, debate zombies and fall in love while watching classic French movies.

Library events and programs are free and open to the public. Tickets and reservations are not required.

Parking is available in the Central Library garage for $6 after 5 p.m. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.

This event is supported by The Seattle Public Library Foundation, media sponsor The Seattle Times and presented in partnership with The Elliott Bay Book Co. Books will be available for purchase and signing. "

Children's Book Author Matthew Porter presents his book "Monkey World: The Thunderbolt Express" at Secret Garden Books in Seattle - Saturday, January 11th 2014 at 2pm

Take the kids and check out the work by this local author!

"All aboard!" calls the station master. So starts a magical train ride with Jango Jenkins and his Dixieland Band, Oscar the magician, Miss Trixie and her pug dog Napoleon. This is about what happens when a pleasant journey goes all wrong. The pug goes missing. The bridge ahead is missing. And, the handle on the train brake is broken. Only in the series of books created by this Seattle author/illustrator under the general series title of Monkey World can the solution to this pickle involve shedding all weight to attempt to fly the train! Matthew Porter is a children's book illustrator and writer. His stories and imagery present the perfect balance of nostalgia with modern elegance. His work has become ubiquitous throughout the Pacific Northwest and he has been called the undisputed king of the hipster board book genre. His books are populated by wide eyed animals and his cheeky monkeys. Matthew's pieces are acrylic paint on wood. The artwork is sanded to highlight the woods natural grain and is rounded out by his use of strong bold lines.""
