King-Snohomish Regional Spelling Bee at Town Hall in Seattle - Sunday, March 24th 2013 from 1-3pm - Free Admission

Inspire your kids and take them to a regional spelling bee!

" Judging by today’s texting teenagers and their OMG “language,” you might think English is obsolete. But we know at least 70 middle-schoolers who can spell words that’d fill a Twitter screen, and when they get together onstage, it’s like a rock concert of literacy. This upbeat, community-wide celebration of language, education, family, and hard work is like a good reality show: incredibly intense, immensely fun—and free. (And, like a good reality show, it’s also on TV! Seattle Channel broadcasts the Bee live, on Seattle Channel 21 and livestream at www.seattlechannel.org.) The student who outlasts and outspells heads to Washington, D.C. for the annual Scripps National Spelling Bee. Presented by Umpqua Bank and Town Hall. "

Event located in the Great Hall and you can enter on Eighth Avenue.

Free event, no tickets required.

  ABOUT "Violent Universe":
The beauty of a starlit sky conceals the violent forces at work within our universe. From the upheaval of a giant star that explodes to release its material into space, to a future encounter between the Earth and a large asteroid that is too close for comfort, we will witness the forces that hold the universe together and occasionally try to rip it apart.

Join us in the Willard Geer Planetarium at Bellevue College to view the show "Violent Universe" and stay to take a tour of the night sky using our state-of-the-art Digistar 3 planetarium projector.

If the weather is clear, come to the Geer Planetarium (room B244) at 6:30 PM to check out sun spots OR stay late after the 8:30 show to check out the stars in real life on the roof of the B building! (Pre-show and post-show events will be cancelled in the case of clouds, rain, or snow.)
